EXTRA out-of-school hours child care provision is set to be created in Bromsgrove, which has received a slice of a £25m lottery windfall.

The New Opportunities Fund has awarded Bromsgrove District Council a £69,224 out-of-school hours learning award.

It will be used to provide a programme of arts and sports activities after school for pupils at seven primary schools in the area.

The project will use specialist arts and sports staff to deliver the programme and use pupils from nearby secondary schools as mentors.

Worcestershire County Council's childcare division, based in Stourbridge Road, has received two bites of the cherry.

A £112, 278 grant will be used to create 52 before-school, 120 after-school, 195 holiday and 30 weekend places, by expanding seven existing schemes and creating four new ones in Worcestershire.

Places will be for three to 14-year-olds and 28 schools will be served.

Another £40,577 given to the authority will create ten before-school, 34 after-school and 40 holiday places, by creating three projects and extending an existing one.

Children aged three to 16-years-old and 30 of the holiday places will be for children with special needs.

The county's child care co-ordinator, Catherine Ellicott, said: "We are delighted with the news and the demand for child care has been based on research.

"We are developing the needs of parents."
