THE devastated parents of a six-year-old Redditch girl who died from meningococcal meningitis during a holiday in Devon have spoken of their grief.
Julie and Allan Senior, of Chedworth Close, Church Hill, said their daughter, Danielle, had been having the best time she had ever had.
The family, including four-year-old Lewis, were enjoying a two-week holiday at Landscove Park in Brixham.
Before they went, they had drawn up a chart counting down the days and Danielle, a pupil at Moons Moat First School, had been so excited, she asked every day how many 'sleeps' it was before they went.
Danielle first fell ill on Friday with what her parents thought was a tummy bug.
Her condition worsened and she developed a small rash on her belly before collapsing in her father's arms.
She was taken to Torbay Hospital where medical staff tried desperately to save her and a specialist team from Bristol were called for.
Public health doctors in Worcestershire have stressed to parents that children at Moons Moat First School are not at any greater risk.
