RICHARD Thompson had a brilliant week playing for Victoria Cricket Club.

Thompson took 7-63 on Saturday to steer his team to a 41-run Worcestershire League Division Three victory over local rivals Stourport.

And he claimed 6-7 the previous Wednesday to help his team to a 10-wicket win over Arley in the Stainweld Cricket League.

Saturday's result gave a blow to second-placed Stourport's hopes of promotion back to Division Two.

Victoria batted first and some loose early bowling saw the hosts off to a flying start.

A superb innings of 133 by acting captain Dave Mitchell was the highlight of the 233 all out.

Mitchell's score included 12 fours and five sixes and he was ably supported by Simon Gallagher on 39.

Stourport bowler Andy Platt returned figures of 4-67 from 19 overs, backed up by three wickets each from Ian Delo and Simon Smith.

In reply, Stourport began briskly with Dave Cook and John Shackleton looking impressive with 37 and 49 respectively.

There was also a useful contribution from Delo (32).

But two outstanding catches by youngsters Wesley Graham and David Bannister slowed down the scoring rate.

The introduction of Thompson, making his first league appearance of the season, devastated the rest of the Stourport team and they were all out for 193.

Victoria 233, Stourport 193.

The second team encounter was abandoned at tea because of the weather.

Hosts Stourport had reached 224-7 after being asked to bat with Richie Allen making a powerful 72.

There was support from Neil Wildgust (56) and Steve Davis (41).

Victoria bowler Bob Webb was his side's star with 5-51 from 16 overs.
