HUNDREDS braved Saturday's elements to enjoy Kidderminster Carnival and raise a record-breaking figure for charity.
Drizzle and, at times, downpours failed to dampen spirits as folk watched the procession through town streets and later took part in the entertainment at Brinton Park. The 'cats' from Kiddermin-ster's Splinters Dance Studio, who scooped the prize for best youth float.
Carnival chairman Colin Hill said between £3,500 and £4,000 had been raised from the day with a possibility of the figure, in aid of the district's door-to-door service for the disabled Wyre Forest Dial-a-Ride, rising further. Kidderm-inster mayor John Stevens enjoys the carnival procession with his wife and son.
New Wyre Forest MP Dr Richard Taylor, who swept to victory for Health Concern in the general election, was among the dozen-or-so to enter a float in the parade.
He was joined on his battlebus, which proclaimed the message "Thank You", by his wife Chris and daughter Georgina. Carnival spirits remained high as the colourful Samba Band wound its way through the wet streets.
Mr Hill said: "It was a super day considering the weather and everybody involved is delighted with the amount raised.
"It was particularly pleasing to see so many youngsters involved in the activities in Brinton Park." Leesa Guise finds her knight in shining armour in the shape of husband Michael.
Float winners in the street parade were Leah Smith and Michael James for their pedestrian child and adult floats. Leah Smith, who was buzzing with excitement after winning the award for the best child pedestrian float.
Jacksons for its pub and club float, Thursfields Solicitors - commercial float, Splinters Dance Studio - youth float, and Wyre Forest Childminding Group - charity float. Ella Bowen joins in the carnival fun on the Wyre Forest childminders' float.
Five-year-old Bewdley girl Jodie Davis completed a rare hat-trick of achievements when she scooped the award for the best trolley float for the third successive year. Damsel Alice Saunders takes a breather from Saturday's proceedings.
The festival fun continued in Brinton Park where Kidderminster Harriers' Captain Crazy hosted events including dog and rabbit shows, while youngsters enjoyed quad bikes and mini train rides, a bouncy castle and a fairground.
Prizes have not been claimed for lucky programme numbers 0915 and 0076, whose holders have won £75 and £25 respectively.
