ATHLETICS: Wyre Forest athletes won seven gold medals at the County Schools Track and Field Championships at Nunnery Wood, Worcester.

They also picked up five silvers and eight bronzes, while 10 qualified to represent their county in the Mason Trophy Competition at Stoke.

The inter-county competition includes opposition such as the West Midlands and Greater Manchester.

The event provides athletes with their last opportunity to gain qualifying standards for the English Schools Championships in July.

Gold winners, girls: Hannah Waters-Brown (junior discus 23.10 metres), Lorna Waters-Brown (senior 100metres hurdles 17.5 seconds), Claire Baker (senior triple jump 10.49m), Hayley Reed (senior 100m 12.19s), Maise Barratt-Smith (senior long jump 4.79m); boys: Steven Parker (junior shot putt 12.01m), Oliver McNeillis (junior 80m hurdles 12.19s).

Silvers, girls: Willow Crump (intermediate discus 22.46m), L Waters-Brown (400m hurdles 1 minute 10.9s); boys: Parker (junior triple jump 11.15m), Kevin Herbert (intermediate 400m 1m-7.6s), Alex Shore (intermediate shot 11.31m).

Bronzes, girls: Laura Easton (junior 800m 2m-26.8s), Elizabeth Dourneen (junior 1,500m 2m-27.5s), Rachel Baldwin junior shot 8.10m), Katy Walker (intermediate shot 8.10m), Claire Baker (senior long jump 4.48); boys: McNeillis (junior long jump 54.20), Daniel Pars (senior long jump 5.36m), James Shore (senior shot 11.28m).

Selection for the county: L Waters-Brown, Reed and Barratt-Smith (Haybridge High School, Hagley), Baker and H Waters-Brown (Holy Trinity, Kidderminster), Crump (Heathfield, Wolverley), McNeillis (Hagley Middle), Parker (King Charles I High), Herbert (Wolverley High), A Shore (Stourport High).

l Holy Trinity School were proud of their pupils' achievements as H Waters-Brown impressed in the U-14 section and Baker in the U-18s.

Physical education teacher Jeanette Thomas said: "It's an excellent achievement. To represent the district was an honour but to go and attain first place positions is outstanding."
