FURTHER to the letter from Mike Parker (June 7) about the disrespect being shown to the War Memorial in Bidford. Perhaps your readers may be interested in a similar experience we have had in this village.
I certainly don't classify myself as an 'old fogy', but I am particularly sensitive to any disrespect shown to any war memorial.
Several of my school chums made the supreme sacrifice during the last world conflict and we must forever show our gratitude to them, and many others, who fought for our freedom.
I have had occasion to move on members of the public who were sitting on the plinth of our Memorial, some of whom should have known better.
Our Parish Council has now been prevailed upon to mount a notice on all four sides of our Memorial which reads 'Please respect this War Memorial. Do not sit, stand or walk on it, other than to pay respect'. We have had no trouble since.
MR FREDERICK J FULLOM BEM, Bourton-on-the-Water.
