WORCESTERSHIRE paceman Chris Liptrot finally dismissed James Foster for 103 when their three-day first class friendly against Durham UCCE resumed at New Road today.

The England 'A' wicketkeeper, who is on Essex's books, notched 18 fours off 289 balls in 5 hours.

The students had begun on 238-6 off 108 overs with Foster, on 100 overnight, and Alex Stead, with 19, facing Alamgir Sheriyar and Liptrot.

Liptrot opened the bowling in place of Kabir Ali, who has a slight stiffness in his back which is unlikely to effect his availability for Sunday's Norwich Union League Division Two clash against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

Sheriyar began by conceding two boundaries to Stead in his first over. His second yielded another couple of runs before he was replaced by spinner Matthew Rawnsley.

The switch rapidly paid dividends when he forced Stead to play on for 28.

In the next over, with the total still 250, Foster was removed to leave Robert Ferley and Mark Thorburn to continue the battle.

Yesterday, the highlight for the County were the performances of spinners Rawnsley and Vikram Solanki, who both made the visiting batsmen work hard for their runs.

Rawnsley whirled his way through 38 overs, taking 2-37, while Solanki bowled 14 overs and conceded just 18 runs.

Although they called the tune, it was paceman Sheriyar who made an initial impression when he reduced the University side to 33-2 by removing James Rowe and Matthew Banes inside the opening 13 overs.

His first scalp was Rowe who had his leg stump knocked out before skipper Banes was caught at second slip by Solanki, who is captaining the County for the first time.

Rawnsley made it 53-3 by bowling Alex Loudon, but after that the students settled down to slowly grind out the runs.

Opener Michael Brown eventually fell to Rawnsley for 55 which included one six and seven fours off 156 deliveries.

His replacement Hugh Loudon, however, spent 32 minutes and faced 32 balls before managing to get off the mark .
