OPENING batsman, David Mitchell, struck a brilliant 133 to win the Evening News/ Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. Cricketer of the Week award.
The 34-year-old helped Victoria & Blakeley Hall defeat second-placed Stourport by 41 runs in Worcestershire League Division Two in one of the few weekend matches that survived the rain.
His century in his side's total of 233 all out included five sixes and was made in 42 overs.
"It was a fairly aggressive innings and despite a downpour at 2pm which delayed the match for 45 minutes it remained dry for the first innings," said David.
"Stourport were very keen to play us because they thought they could beat us and until five overs to go they were pretty close but Richard Thompson took five wickets in three overs."
Stourport were all out for 192 with Thompson returning figures of 7-63.
David, who lives in Kidderminster, is a former Worcestershire U19s cricketer where he was selected as a leg-spin bowler and played with the likes of Stuart Lampitt.
This is his first season with Victoria after five seasons with Kidderminster Cricket Club.
He has previously played for Nairn in the Scottish Highlands where he picked up valuable experience in batting on damp wickets.
His match-winning efforts this time round have earned him a £30 voucher to spend at Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. in Sherriff Street, Worcester.
