HALO, is it me you're looking for?

For classic car owner Stephen Brown, the call was heaven sent - Carlton TV wanted to feature his prize Volvo in a programme on Roger Moore, alias The Saint. Stephen and Susan Brown with the Volvo 1800 which is to feature in a forthcoming ITV programme on former Saint star, Roger Moore.

The classic 1960s TV series featured Moore, who went on to greater fame as 007, as a debonair private detective who always drove a trademark 1964 white Volvo 1800.

The model which can be seen in the Legends programme about the veteran British actor next month, was bought by Mr Brown two years ago and was partially and lovingly restored by him.

Mr Brown, who runs a hairdressing salon in Bewdley with his wife, Susan, said the actor, who used to live in the Blakedown area, also owned a Volvo 1800.

His car could often be seen parked outside The George Hotel, in Load Street, Bewdley, where he was a regular.

And he revealed the car was not the first choice of the makers of The Saint whose request for an E-type Jaguar was turned down.

"Quite a few Volvo 1800s were made," said Mr Brown, "but they are comparatively rare now. It's a nice car. It keeps up with modern stuff."
