RIDERS are being urged to improve their skills by starring in their own video.

The British Horse Society has launched a new initiative to spur on riders who have spent the winter training their horse or themselves and have no competitions to assess their progress, or who have a training problem.

Riders should send in a 10 minute video of themselves riding or lunging their horse along with brief details such as experience and age of the horse and an outline of any specific training problem.

Within a week, one of the society's experienced coaches (FBHS or BHSI) will send written comments and training suggestions.

They will provide feedback on either flatwork or jumping or lungeing.

Anyone preparing for a BHS exam can also use it as a way to get feedback specifically on their position and/or riding skills.

"This initiative will give riders the opportunity to be advised by a top instructor for a very modest fee," said BHS chief executive Kay Driver.

The BHS Coaching Angels scheme is available to BHS gold members for an introductory fee of £20.

Send a video and a cheque made payable to the BHS to Coaching Angels, BHS Training Department, Stoneleigh Deer Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
