LEE Wilks was the star as Pershore won the Bredon six-a-side competition staged over two nights at the picturesque village ground.

The hard hitting batsman, however, missed out in the final when the hosts, chasing 72 to win in five overs, failed to come to terms with a restrictive bowling attack and athletic fielding.

Wilks opened the first night's proceedings against a Bredon B squad with a blistering innings of 75 from just 26 balls in a massive total of 87.

The chasers lost just one wicket in reply but could only scrape together 54 runs.

Wilks was at it again in the next match when his 14-ball stay at the wicket brought him 44 runs as Pershore rattled up 75-4 against Overbury.

Paul Bozward's opening over that cost just six runs left Overbury with a huge mountain to climb and they too were restricted to a total of 54.

The final brought the two strongest sides together with Pershore again taking first strike against the host club.

Wilks hit ten off two balls before losing his wicket but Bozward (33) and Johan Coetsee (26no) kept the momentum going to amass 71-1 and set a stiff target.

Pershore's bowling and again proved difficult to get away and some fine fielding helped to contain the Bredon batsmen, who could only muster 53.

The Pershore squad of Wilks, Bozward, Coetseee, Stevens, Rushin, Corfield and Hughes received well deserved awards from the Bredon club.
