THE Vale Triffids Super-raft team held its third annual race at Evesham Rowing Club last Sunday.
In a season where races have been decimated by Foot and Mouth it was the first competitive outing.
Teams came from as far afield as Matlock and Tring to compete alongside the closer Herefordshire teams, some of whom are the top teams in this sport.
On a fair day with a stiff breeze and a strong current on the upstream part of the course of two four-mile circuits, the winners of Division A were Farmerz of Wormelow, Herefordshire, who broke their own record time to clock one hour, four minutes and 30 seconds.
Second place was taken by Severn Ten in a time of 1.12.34, Division B was won by Vikings from Henley-in-Arden in a time of 1.25.52 with the Triffids taking second in 1.31.26.
A new endurance trophy was presented to Grit Rafters of Matlock. A total of £150 was raised for the local Talking Newspaper.
The host club would like to thank the Rowing Club for the use of their facilities.
