A FORMER police sergeant has said "hello, hello, hello," to a new housing development named in his honour.

Long-serving Lance Lancelott opened the £1m complex - named Lancelott Court - in Pershore's Three Springs Road.

The 92-year-old was invited to open the development on the site of the town's former police station, where he was based during his career, by the Spa Housing Group.

"Mr Lancelott was the town's longest-serving police officer and we thought it only fitting that the development be named in his honour," said Spa Housing Group chief executive Guy Weston.

"We hope that he enjoyed having a look around the new scheme and I'm sure it brought back lots of memories of his time as a serving officer at the police station.

"We're pleased that we've been able to make good use of the land by providing much-needed quality housing at affordable rents."

The housing association bought the former police station in 1999, when Pershore's operation moved to new facilities in Queen Elizabeth Drive.

A four-bedroomed and a three-bedroomed house have been provided by the renovation of two of the former police houses, while other buildings have been converted into one-bedroom flats and new properties have been built.

Mr Lancelott, of Manor Gardens, served at the station for 15 years before retiring to run the Special Constables.

"I think it's a beautiful and wonderful development," he said.

"I'm so pleased that instead of it being left derelict they decided to take it over and develop it as it is."
