MALVERN Town Action Group (MTAG) has won three more seats on the town council, following elections held last Thursday (June 14).

Paul Tuthill and Vivien Thomson were elected in Link ward and Lynne Hall in Langland.

The latest elections mean that MTAG has won every vacant seat it has contested this year and now has seven members on the 25-strong council.

Coun Tuthill said: "We're delighted with such an excellent turnout in the Link ward, which once again sends a clear message to the councillors.

"The main issue we must tackle is the question of the town clerk's retirement package, which has yet to be discussed openly in a meeting to which the public can attend."

Coun Thomson said: "I would like to thank all those who supported me. The turn-out was pretty good in the Link, which I think reflects the depth of feeling about the council.

"It would be nice to put this unpleasantness behind us and get on with the job of running the council."

The third of the Action Group trio, Coun Lynne Hall, promised a two-pronged effort on behalf of electors.

"Obviously I'm pleased and I hope to, (a) do something for the people of Langland and, (b) to get down the ridiculous cost of town council shenanigans," she said.

The vacancies were created by the resignation of councillors following a town poll in which more than 3,000 residents called on members to quit.

One seat is still vacant following the resignation of Coun Brian Merrien. There will be an election if ten or more voters give notice in writing by Thursday, June 28.
