WORCESTER boxer Leroy Williamson was unlucky to drop a close points decision in Sheffield last night.
The 27-year-old welterweight, from Nobby Nobbs' gym in Birmingham, put up a gritty display over six rounds against Leeds prospect Gavin Wake at the Grosvenor Hotel.
However, not for the first time in his career, he found himself on the wrong end of a decision from the referee.
Wake took the first as Leroy circled the ring, flicking out his jab against his taller opponent. But Williamson settled into a rhythm from the second, and enjoyed success with crisp combinations while darting in and out of range.
Although disappointed with the 58-57 verdict, Williamson plans to be back in action within the next fortnight.
"It was very close. He came out firing in the last round and that's probably why I lost the decision," he said.
