A WORCESTERSHIRE angler is pre-paring for a trip to Portugal for the world championships.
Ken Renshaw (above), from Droitwich Spa, is all set to be picked for the England wheelchair team at the championships, to be held in October.
He is due to travel to Peterborough next week for the British trials, but is confident that his results this year will already be enough to earn him selection for the first time.
The 49-year-old has been wheelchair-bound since a car accident in 1979 but that has not stopped him enjoying a sport he has competed in since he was a boy.
He said: "I am delighted - even to get picked for the trials is an achievement.
"Last year the team got a bronze medal, and hopefully this year we can go on and get gold."
Ken, who is a trustee of the British Disabled Angling Federation, has to fund part of the Portugal trip himself. He has some sponsorship from Droitwich Angling Centre but needs more backing to make the trip.
