AN old picture recently published in the Malvern Gazette brought back memories for one former resident.
The picture, published on Friday, May 25, showed pupils at St Mary's Elementary School, Guarlford, in 1938 and was contributed by Mrs Orlean Young (nee Whitlock).
Amy Clifford of Langley, Berkshire, has written to us with her recollections of the school.
She writes: "I was born in 1918 and so I left school at the age of 14 in August 1932. The children in the photo are not known to me, as they must have been in the infants when I left. I knew Hilda Cole, of course. She was my teacher when I started school. The Cole family lived at the beginning of Chance's Lane. Mr Cole was a wheelwright and his shop was nearby.
"The Whitlocks lived next door and I remember Orlean being born and standing at the gate, asking Mrs Whitlock to see the baby.
"Stanley Jackson is my cousin; most of the names of the other children are very familiar to me. Their brothers and sisters must have been in my year.
"I would like to have thanked all my teachers for the good grounding in education that they gave me."
