WOULD-BE tennis players of any age are being invited to 'have a go' on Monday (June 25) at 7.30pm at the Hanley & Upton Tennis Club.
The club, which meets at Hanley Castle High School, has five courts and has recently acquired a new pavilion and practice wall, built with the aid of a Lottery Grant. Courts are available seven days a week during school holidays and every evening during term time.
The club was started three years ago by Ann Hume, who teaches at the school and has done much to promote the sport in the district. At the AGM in March, Ann and her 'start-up' committee handed over to a fresh committee, who want to continue the good work.
Geoff Rowswell, the new chairman, said: "Ours is very much a social tennis club. There doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm for tournaments as most members are relatively new to the sport. However, coaching sessions have been planned for the summer months, run by a professional coach, so watch this space."
If anyone is interested in joining the club, or perhaps just coming along on Monday, please contact Geoff Rowswell on (01684) 565731, Alan Clark on (01684) 593834 or Philip Earl on (01386) 750902.
