ALTHOUGH Evening News readers are more likely to be bored than amused by these exchanges between N Taylor and myself regarding regional government, I'll try just one more time to get my point across.
About a month ago (it seems much longer) N Taylor wrote "we are about to be governed by a West Midlands Regional Assembly which we haven't voted for".
I replied that this claim was "wildly inaccurate", by which I meant "false".
I pointed out that no regional assembly could be established without a referendum.
People vote in a referendum, so if we ever do get a West Midlands Assembly, it will only be because a majority of people vote for it. QED.
Having eliminated one falsehood, I suggested that we could avoid any more by means of an informed, rational debate.
The West Midlands Constitutional Convention has been set up with the aim of fostering that debate.
Its first general meeting will be on Saturday, July 28, at Aston Business School.
