MR Norwood (You Say, June 19) states that the low support for the UK Independence Party shows that people are not interested in "Europe".
Well, a recent Mori poll showed that 52 per cent of people in Britain actually want to come out of the European Union.
Why then, you might well ask, on the biggest issue of the day, did they not all vote for UKIP?
Many people vote tactically to stop one of the other parties "getting in"; many vote as they always have and and always will; many were taken in by the anti-EU rhetoric of the Conservative Party.
However, unlike the other parties, we actually doubled our share of the vote. I would like to thank the 1,442 people of Worcester, who could see a little bit further than the end of their noses, for voting for the UK Independence Party.
If we withdraw from the EU, the money saved would be enough to build not one but two new hospitals, like the one going up in Worcester, every week of the year.
Do we really want to be part of a superstate where decision-making's done behind closed doors, free speech is frowned upon, and political parties with opposing views are banned? Your choice!
RICHARD CHAMINGS,
Parliamentary Candidate UK Independence Party, Worcester
