A WESTLANDS family is mourning the loss of a grandfather killed in a road crash while cycling home from work.
David Deeming's red Raleigh trail bike was in collision with a green Volvo lorry last Sunday night.
The industrial cleaner was riding through Wyre Piddle, Pershore, to his Farmer's Piece home.
Sixty-year-old David leaves his wife, Glenda, four children and eight grandchildren.
A relative at the family home told the Advertiser: "David was a very keen cyclist and it gave him great pleasure to take his bike out.
"He has even ridden to Cornwall and back and often enjoyed cycling holidays."
A Droitwich resident of more than 30 years, David had moved to the Spa from Birmingham in 1970.
An inquest into Mr Deeming's death was opened and adjourned on Monday, June 25.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened on the A4538, at 9.45pm.
The driver of the Volvo lorry, which was travelling in the same direction, was not hurt.
Wyre Piddle resident Sue Taylor, who was one of the first on the scene, said: "I rushed out of the house to see if I could help because I'm a nurse but there was very little I could do."
After many years of campaigning the village is to have a by-pass, but the stretch of road where Mr Deeming was killed will not be affected.
