POSSIBLE solutions to an on-going flooding problem in St George's will be discussed during a high-profile meeting with residents.

It is one of the first initiatives launched by Redditch Council's St George's Environmental Project (STEP).

Residents of Beoley Road West, Worcestershire County Council's highways department, Redditch Council and Severn Trent will all be meeting to discuss ways to tackle the flood dilemma.

Redditch Councillor Andy Fry said: "The houses with cellars and the Cricketer's Arms pub on Beoley Road West flood every time there is a little bit of rain and we want a solution now."

He added: "It seems the county council has been blaming Severn Trent and Severn Trent has been blaming the county council.

"There is a problem and it needs sorting out."

The meeting is scheduled to take place either in the town hall or in St George's within the next three weeks.

Meanwhile, Mr Fry said he wanted STEP to be as successful as the Salters Lane Action Project (SLAP) in Batchley.

He said: "It is STEP because it's a step forward. St George's has its problem areas and the project will be about making moves to improve the environment for residents. I want the churches, schools and residents to be involved. This meeting about the flooding problem is the first project we want to sort out."
