CYCLING prospect James Shaw is mapping out his future with the Olympics and the Tour De France planned en-route.
The 19-year-old from Kidderminster has already won the U-23 National Road Championships.
Shaw is also in a strong position to win the series after finishing sixth overall in Rockingham Forest at the weekend despite suffering with a cold.
He is training at Manchester Velodrome with the best of Britain in preparation for a national track competition in early August.
Shaw's recent success has boosted his chances of gaining a place on the World Class Performance Plan (WCPP).
The physics student said: "Once I finish at Bristol University, I want to stay in this country and concentrate on the Olympics with the track squad.
"After that, I want to be a continental professional and do the big races across Europe. At the moment, I'm just basically building up my CV."
However, Shaw used to be more accustomed to water as he sailed in the International Moth series.
He began cycling to keep fit and realised he had a great talent with the help of Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club about four years ago.
Shaw, coached by Neil Walker, now competes for Stourbridge and is in the England Potential Programme.
He is due to take part in the Senior Elite Championships in Cardiff on Sunday but may rest due to illness.
