WORCESTER City's league cup winning team received a rousing welcome at a civic reception in their honour last night.
The Dr Martens Cup winners arrived at the Guildhall by open-top bus to be greeted by around 100 supporters and Worcester Mayor, Coun David Clark.
Earlier manager John Barton and his team had been driven on a victory parade from St George's Lane.
Fans mingled with the players including cup scorers, Mark Shepherd and Jamie Hyde, during the reception.
"It was a terrific turnout, which was gratefully received, as was the recognition for winning the cup," said Barton.
Top scorer Mark Owen, who was cheered as he hoisted the Worcester Vase with team-mates, was surprised at the number of people who turned up to support them.
"I couldn't believe the turn out but to see so many fans is what makes it all worthwhile," he said.
The cup win was City's first national competition win since 1978-79 and the first time since before the Second World War the club had won the equivalent competition.
