OAKENSHAW ace Enzo Mucci is trying to avoid another season of disappointment despite having his latest hopes of a ride dashed.

Mucci had hoped to race in the British Touring Cars Championship only to be cut from the JS Motorsports team because of financial difficulties.

Now JSM have put their Alfa 147 up for sale ending Mucci's Alfa Championship hopes.

A couple of less-than-spectacular appearances in the AutoItalia Championship is all Mucci has to show for his efforts so far.

But the speedster is bidding to raise £25,000 to compete in the final four rounds of the Formula Renault Championship, starting at Olton Park on August 25.

"It was pretty obvious the team were going nowhere in the Alfa Championship this season," said Mucci. "So I decided I had to take action and go elsewhere to avoid losing another season."

Mucci has spoken to three teams and looks likely to link up with Olton Park-based PB Racing if he can raise the sponsorship.

Mucci is hoping to emulate last season's Formula Renault champ Kimi Raikkonen who has stepped up to Formula One.

n CATERHAMS driver Gordon Matthew had a torrid time at Oulton Park at the weekend after a rash overtaking manoeuvre cost him dear.

Matthew, in his second year of racing, qualified an encouraging 15th, four seconds behind the leader. But he overbraked on the fourth lap, spinning out and was left trailing in 15th.
