THERE was disappointment for several riders from Bromsgrove-based Olympique CC over the weekend despite some excellent performances.
The British Cycling Federation's Regional Challenge speed and skills competition at Nottingham didn't see an Olympique winner.
Ross Dingley was unlucky to lose two penalty points in the skill round.
His fastest speed trial wasn't quite enough to pull the deficit back from Halesowen's Joe Dodd who had a clear round and won the new mountain bike first prize.
Six-year-old Jason Dingley was among the youngest riders competing.
He acquitted himself well and took ninth place from the dozens of competitors in his age group.
Last year's winner, Emily Seal's results were not available as the Advertiser/-Messenger went to press.
Rosie Seal, Genevieve Billington and Jack Barnes qualified for the competition but were unable to compete because of other commitments. Jack will be riding in the Greater London area's competition in a few weeks.
Alex and Francine Billington lost out for different reasons.
At the York Cycling Rally grass track events, Alex had gear trouble and despite gutsy performances he didn't make the first six.
Francine found out the organisers had imposed an arbitrary age restriction for the British School's Competition, meaning she should have entered the women's races three weeks ago -- so she didn't get a race at all.
Next week sees the youth team in action at Curborough sprint circuit and the BSCA West Midland Regional Track Championship at Halesowen.
The club's ten-mile time trial series restarts tomorrow, near Hanbury. For more details call (01527) 833847.
