A SPATE of thefts at a Redditch school has prompted a plea for parents to ensure their children do not carry large amounts of money at school.
Several instances of money being taken from students' bags or purses have been reported at St Augustine's RC High School over the last two weeks.
Headteacher Carol Buchanan said despite staff members' best efforts, the thief or thieves had not been traced.
She added: "It's a very sad reflection on our school community.
"We will continue to be vigilant in order to identify the culprits but it is essential that students do not leave valuables lying about unguarded."
Mrs Buchanan also voiced concerns that some students bring quite large sums of money to the Hunt End school.
"This obviously increases the seriousness of any loss.
"I would ask parents to ensure their children only take to school money that is absolutely necessary," said Mrs Buchanan.
