As the Ipsley Board Schools were being used as a polling station on Tuesday, there were an unusual number of people about.
A runaway horse with Mrs Pearman and her little boy dashed up Ipsley Street.
Pc Eales jumped and caught the maddened animal's head and even when the shaft broke and he was thrown down, he held tenaciously on.
As a consequence he was rather seriously injured about the arms and legs and his clothing being almost all torn away.
Pc Brookes went for the horse and in turn was knocked down but never lost his hold.
Pc Pratt despairingly caught one of the horse's hind legs and held on until Pc Brookes was pulled out on to the road.
