PUPILS from Chadsgrove School helped the West Midlands win the National Junior Championships for disabled athletes in Blackpool at the weekend.
Seventeen-year-old Emile Yardley won the under-20s 100 and 200 metres and was a member of the sprint relay teams which both won silvers.
His fine performances at the annual championships have resulted in him winning a £200 grant from event sponsors Nationwide. It will be presented at the House of Commons in September.
Wheelchair athlete Charlotte Street won golds in the under-15s shot, javelin, 100 metres and wheelchair slalom.
Tom Small broke the championship record in winning the under-15s 100m and claimed silver in the javelin. Charlotte and Tom compete for Chads-grove but attend mainstream schools.
Eighteen-year-old Lee Brampton won the wheelchair slalom for the fifth successive year in what will be his last national championships representing the school, in Meadow Road, Catshill.
It was gold in the shot and bronze in the discus for under-15 Jamie Edwards.
John Sutton-Smith won long jump gold in the under-17s and received a silver in the 4x400m relay. Stacey Everill won gold in the under-17s shot.
Alex Pugh won the precision club contest and was third in the under-20s 60m.
Mathew Keegan and James Warman were the school's other West Midlands representatives.
PE co-ordinator Stewart McConkey said: "This must be one of our best ever competitions.
"Thirteen golds, three silvers and four bronze medals is a really good result."
Eight other regions and a total of 400 athletes took part in the competition.
