A WORCESTER group has arranged a fun event for this weekend to help raise cash to revamp a children's playground.

The Blackpole Residents Group has organised the event to be held on the playground and park, which is next to the Blackpole Estate.

Worcester City Council, which owns the land, has been working in partnership with the residents' group to help organise the day.

"The land is quite rundown and needs revamping," said Claire Bailey, who is an area housing manager at Worcestershire Housing Association.

"We are hoping to improve it, not just for the children but for the residents as well."

As a result of their 'Just Bin It' campaign on the Blackpole Estate, the Duckworth Trust awarded the residents £500 to be spent on a community project, which was matched by the housing association.

"We are hoping there will be a good turnout," said Mrs Bailey. "The residents have been working really hard. It would be lovely to eventually put swings, roundabouts and a nice planting area in the park."

On the day, residents will have the chance to voice their opinions on how they'd like to see the play area developed.

Director of Worcestershire Housing Association, Liz Staveley, will present the residents with the money, along with a member of the Duckworth Trust.

A number of local shops and organisations have contributed to a prize draw and there will be entertainment for the children.

The event is to be held this Saturday from 5pm until 7pm.
