COUNCILLORS have said no to a bid to revamp "one of the world's singularly unpleasant eyesores" in Kidderminster.
Changes to Crown House, Bull Ring, which has been lambasted by Wyre Forest District Council leader Mike Oborski, have been declared unsuitable after members of the planning (development control) committee made a site visit.
Trillium, owner of the eight-storey building which houses Government department offices and has been the subject of a campaign for demolition, wanted to put white uPVC windows in place and fit them with bronze anti-sun laminated double glazing.
The firm, which holds the lease which has 70 years to run, also wanted to redecorate external cladding panels.
But councillors took a look and refused the plans after members of CATCH - Campaign Against The Crown House - branded the changes "cheap and nasty".
