BURMA STAR ASSOCIATION: Held their National AGM and Conference at Blackpool last weekend in the Winter Gardens - with dancing and cabaret Friday and Saturday evening with the 'Grumbleweeds', Beryl Johnson international singing star and Danny Larue. Hosts were mayor of Blackpool, councillor Mrs Sue Wright and her consort Mr Stan Wright. The weekend culminated with Sunday morning service at Holy Trinity Church, followed by a parade of 1600 Burma veterans. The salute was taken by the associations president the Viscount Slim OBE DL and the mayors of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The Burma Star Association is now in its 50th anniversary with over 11,000 members, the Evesham and District branch in its 40th anniversary with 60 members - further information from Ron Walker, hon secretary, telephone 01386 442034.
