LIFE on the road could become a lot easier for travelling sales reps and businessmen thanks to a flash of inspiration from a Kidderminster man.
Richard Latham came up with the in-car workstation while stopped at a motorway services in London - and it could make backache a thing of the past for people who work at the wheel up and down the country. Richard Latham with the laptop table he has designed.
The device features a strong worktable designed to hold a laptop or large notepad with a separate section for mobile phones, pens - and even a drink.
It is held in place by an adjustable frame which can be fitted to the passenger seat in seconds.
Mr Latham, managing director of CarDesk, based at RPL Autostore in Worcester Road, said: "I just sat there and watched everyone around me struggle to work from the low position on the passenger seat which is obviously very awkward and uncomfortable.
"Then I just thought it would be a great idea to devise some kind of 'mobile workstation' that would allow people to work in comfort while in their car."
Mr Latham claims his invention, which fits all cars, could increase company profits by reducing tension and strain - and therefore the number of sick days taken by travelling employees.
He said since the launch of the workstation six weeks ago, there has been "amazing" interest from magazines and major buyers from across the country and Europe.
Insurance companies, with fleet cars and legions of travelling reps, are paying particular attention.
