The visit to Drakelow Tunnels attracted many members and friends, who saw the complex of tunnels, which were constructed in 1941 into sandstone, and used during the Second World War for the manufacture of aircraft engines.
The tunnels were subsequently the seat of top secret Government headquarters which would have assumed responsibility for this region in the event of a nuclear war.
Most of the original equipment has now been removed but there are a few remaining artefacts.
Members have been invited by Richard Davies to view the recently restored Caldwall Tower on Monday.
Non-members will be welcome but are asked to contact Nick Hughes in advance on 01562 822295 as numbers are limited.
Those attending should meet at the tower in Castle Road at 7pm.
