FULLY agree with J Turner on voting (You Say, June 22).
However, I would go one step further and support the Australian system of compulsory voting. We could also include a further option of being able to vote against any candidate that we, the voter, considered not to be of our choice, and therefore not just a choice based upon which political party.
This could well reform such results when councillors have been elected by less than 13 per cent of the eligible voters, and overall turnouts of less than 20 per cent, when in other wards, while still too low, there were turnouts of more than 45 per cent.
