DROITWICH Canals Trust has re-negotiated fishing rights with the Railway Inn Fishing Club, who should have properly informed the public.
There are a number of fishing clubs to whom we lease stretches of the canal to raise funds for the restoration.
David Evans is, I believe, a member of the Railway Inn Fishing Club. We will be writing to them to say that they should not be claiming to speak for DCT.
Wychavon District Council has always maintained an area of no fishing in Vines Park. There is some contamination in the canal basin, and details of this will become public after the publication of the British Waterways report, which has been presented to Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council - but not to Droitwich Canals Trust. This is not the reason for not allowing fishing there, however.
The restoration of the canal will include environmental improvements so that the canal becomes a true 'wildlife corridor'.
Margaret Rowley,
Chairman,
Droitwich Canals Trust.
