NEVER mind a song about the little red Corvette - an Evesham man has got the goods for Maroon Morris Marina and has helped a show to go on in Birmingham.

Terry Archer, of Pershore Road, Hampton, was absolutely "gobsmacked" to find a note on the windscreen of his 1974 Morris Marina Coupe asking for it to be used in Black Country Rock, a new musical comedy being staged at the Crescent Theatre, Birmingham next month.

The letter came from the show's writer/director Giovanni Esposito who had spotted the Marina in Mr Archer's driveway while driving past.

Mr Archer explained: "One of the main features in the musical is a song called Maroon Morris Marina and he needed to borrow a Marina that fitted the bill - but there are very few about."

Mr Archer said he called Mr Esposito and agreed to let him have the car for the production.

Now he will see his car take its starring role when he attends a performance of the musical, running from July 31-August 4, with the four tickets he has been given. Car restorer Mr Archer said: "In their day, Marinas had a pretty poor reputation. I have had this one a couple of years and it is in superb condition and although I was gobsmacked when I first read the letter. I shall be proud when I see the car on the stage."
