Basement Jaxx - Rooty (XL)
IT'S the burst of steel drums on the fifth track, Jus 1 Kiss, that hooks you. The soaring "We'll be flying high" makes you wonder what happened to Balearic house before Ibiza went rotten.
And suddenly we head to the other side of the world, with the Mexican-inspired brass in Broken Dreams before Where's Your Head At delivers a sharp dose of industrial-sounding techno.
The Jaxx appear to have set the tempo once again,
as they did with 1999's
debut album Remedy,
using a vast mosaic of styles - including the chirping of some canaries at DJ Felix Burton's family home. Expect turntable domination throughout clubland.
