I AM writing to add my protest to that of Mrs Mary Thomas (Postbag, June22) on the subject of treatment of minor injuries in the Malvern area. I think it is deplorable that a town the size of Malvern has no A & E facility.
On a recent visit to Derby, I had a fall which necessitated 40 stitches to my forehead and loss of blood. I was taken quickly to Derby RI, where I was treated without delay and my cuts stitched by a very skilled doctor.
Had this happened in Malvern there would have been at least a half-hour journey to Worcester followed by a wait of goodness how long before I could be treated!
Also, do Malvern residents realise that, although you can have an X-ray done at the Community Hospital, the plates have to go to Worcester for analysis and you do not get the result for two weeks! Two weeks - how do they go, by stagecoach?
Something should and must be done to provide Malvern with a decent medical service. The present situation is more what one would expect in the Third World than in a prosperous British town in 2001.
