A NEW audio tape released this week aims to transport listeners back through time to an agricultural world beginning 60 years ago, before the worries of modern farming.
Memories of a Herefordshire Farmer has been recorded for The Crown House Press by John Thacker.
Mr Thacker began his farming career near Bromyard in 1942 and worked at Poswick Farm.
Originally recorded for the BBC radio series The Century Speaks, his anecdotes about his experiences proved so popular that he decided to record them on to tape.
"People were coming up to me and saying they missed it and could they have a tape," said Mr Thacker. "I met Jerry Johns (from The Crown House Press) and we decided to make a tape."
Mr Thacker's accounts are of a time very different to farming today.
"They were much happier days, much easier," he said.
"There have been terrific changes, it was all horses then. There was a lot of manual work but we weren't ever short of food.
"It's a shame but it's a tremendous struggle to carry on these days."
The double cassette is available from The Crown House Press, Clifton-upon-Teme, Worcestershire, WR6 6EN, priced £10 and £1 p&p.
