WEST Malvern CC were entertained at Dymock by the Sunday XI combination of Dymock and Ledbury.
DYMBURY v WEST MALVERN
West Malvern won the toss and elected to bat. Holiday and other commitments had forced West Malvern to field a very inexperienced team with two U13 players, Asa Smith and Chris Finch-Theyer and one U14 player, Joe Little.
Fortunately Phillip Chaundy hit a wonderful vein of form on his return from university, his solid 88 gave a substantial platform with most batsmen chipping in. Joe Little, opening the innings made seven runs including a superb cover drive for four, before edging a catch.
Richard Dudley and Geoff Hall kept things going and Asa Smith scored 14 (three 4s), showing high confidence. Mike Williamson blasted a quick fire 12 and the innings closed at 183-7.
The Dymbury innings started slowly and wickets fell at regular intervals with young Chris Finch-Theyer taking two early wickets and Richard Dudley one. Joe Little and Geoff Hall continued the good work, again with the junior partner taking two wickets to his senior's one.
A defiant stand between Capewell and R Punt then followed but frequent bowling changes eventually worked when Asa Smith had Capewell caught attempting a big hit. Phillip Chaundy then made a diving catch off his own bowling to dismiss Punt. Chris Finch-Theyer then mopped up the tail and finished the innings by bowling the aggressive Windley.
West won the game, largely due to a magnificent 88 by Phillip Chaundy and in the field thanks to the contributions made by Chris Finch-Theyer (U13, 4-38), Joe Little (U14, 2-12) and Asa Smith (U134, 1-21).
