CRIMINALS repaying their debt to society have been thanked when a Worcester social club re-opened its doors following refurbishment.
The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor David Clark, was invited to Cherwell Close Residents' Club in Tolladine to meet members and declare the new-look premises open.
"We had a club before, but we've spruced it up with some new paint and flowers," said Bella McGreavy, the club's treasurer.
"Some boys doing community service orders came along to tidy the gardens, fix fences and put the first layer of paint on.
"They made themselves very useful and I'd like to thank them. They worked jolly hard."
Councillor Clark took part in a raffle and presented 95-year-old resident Emmy King with a bouquet.
The club has two dozen members who pay subscriptions for activities such as bingo and trips out.
Flowers and stones have been donated to the club for its garden, where a small bridge, featuring a plaque and posy of flowers, has been added in memory of former member Edith Bridge.
