A FRENCH student from the college attended by murdered teenager Celine Figard is spending a fortnight in Worcester, compliments of an English language centre.

Christelle Mougeot, a student at Lycee le Grand Chenois, was awarded the scholarship by Kingsway as a chance to stay with a local family and brush up on her English.

The 20-year-old, who arrived at the weekend, will be able to pay her respects to Celine at a Memorial Garden in Ombersley churchyard.

The scholarship is offered every year by centre owners Sue and Rick Johns, to a student from Celine's college who shows an aptitude for English.

They are usually around the same age as fellow student Celine was when she was murdered in December 1995.

The 19-year-old's naked body was found dumped by the side of the A449 near Hawford after she was raped and strangled by lorry driver Stuart Morgan.

Mrs Johns said the scholarship was a way of bringing something positive out of the tragedy.

"Celine's parents have visited Kingsway several times in the last few years and on the last occasion brought their son with them," she said.

Miss Mougeot will be treated to a free 31-hour English course by the Kingsway centre and a weekly lunch at the city's best restaurants.

Brown's, The Glass House, The Chequers at Crowle or The Bear and Ragged Staff at Bransford are on the menu.

Her hosts, Ann and Tony May of Droitwich Road, have accomodated the students since the scheme's launch in 1997.

They pledge to take the students to see the Celine Figard memorial, as well as a dedication to English schoolgirl Caroline Dickinson, who was murdered in France.

Miss Mougeot will finally return home to France on Friday, July 13.
