SHARP-eyed Malvern people who could have spotted an 11-year-old boy being grabbed by a youth are being urged to contact West Mercia police.
Investigating officer PC Adrian Bowden said he was sure there was an "innocent" explanation for the incident which happened between noon and 1pm on Sunday.
But he added he was keen to hear from anyone with any information to eliminate "foul play."
The boy was grabbed as he stood with two friends on the corner of Cowleigh Bank and Belmont Road, Malvern.
The youth was one of two males and two girls - described as being in their early 20s or late teens - who had been looking under the bonnet of a red car parked in Cowleigh Bank.
He then crossed the road and grabbed the boy before dragging him to the car, possibly a Ford Orion or Escort.
However youth let go of the boy after a white BMW drove past. The four then drove off towards Newtown Road.
"I'd encourage the occupants of the red vehicle to contact us so we can rule out foul play," said PC Bowden.
"I would also appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident, particularly the driver of the white BMW to get in touch."
Anyone with any information should contact Worcester police on 01905 723888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
