PLANS for a radical overhaul of facilities at a Cleobury Mortimer school costing more than £850,000 have been submitted to South Shropshire district planners.
Lacon Childe School, Love Lane, wants to create new classroom space and upgrade its food and textiles area in a scheme costing £644,000.
Under the plans, rooms would be created for food, electronics, science, textiles and graphics.
Existing areas would be converted to provide two additional classrooms, while the current electronics room would be used for an extension to the arts section and create a new pottery space.
Funding would be provided by the Department for Further Education and Employment and work would be finished by next summer.
And in a second application, a health and fitness suite would be created at a cost of £150,000 and changing rooms refurbished at a cost of £60,000.
The scheme, which is funded by the Government and the district council, would also create a fitness assessment area for members of the community. Work is due to start later this month and be completed by the start of the autumn term.
