THE heartbroken parents of a Wythall teenager who died days after he was stuck by a car were surrounded by friends and fellow residents as they took to the streets to protest about the speed limit.
Ryan Pettigrew, 14, from The Hurst, Hollywood, died from injuries he suffered while on his bike delivering newspapers.
On Thursday, a demonstration was held at the spot where Ryan was hurt in Middle Lane and his parents, Colin and Ros, joined fellow residents in calling for the speed limit to be cut from 60mph to 30mph.
Police motorcyclists cordoned off the road as villagers ranging from toddlers to pensioners turned up to show their support and strength of feeling.
Mr Pettigrew said the demonstration had gone extremely well and both he and his wife had been pleased with the amount of people who had turned up.
Mrs Pettigrew said: "Everybody in the community turned out, residents and friends of ourselves and of Ryan.
"It just proved the strength of feeling here.''
She added: ''It is not just Middle Lane that is the problem but also Dark Lane and Packhorse Lane.
"We want to see the speed limit completely brought down and we will demonstrate again and again until this happens."
Jeff Romanis, head of highways at the county council said: "A number of letters have been received about the speed limit in this area.
"We think many people are not aware that the possibility of reducing this area to a 40mph limit is being pursued.
"People who are aware of this are calling for it to be brought down to 30mph and this is something we will be looking into."
