DROITWICH Spa Cricket Club's First XI achieved an excellent victory at St Peters Fields on Sunday against West Bromwich Dartmouth First XI, winning by 30 runs.
Spa took the first knock in the Berry and Co Premier Division fixture and were soon on the back foot at eight for two.
Against a strong West Bromwich side, South African Friedlander dismissed Spa's Steve Walsh and Nigel Haddock cheaply.
Droitwich slowly but surely recovered through the Bryan brothers, with Stuart in particular playing some aggressive shots.
They hoisted the score up to 140 before Stuart was dismissed for a fine 75. Paul Bryan quickly followed for a workmanlike 52. The middle order responded well in the final eight overs, Gary Cartwright especially, with a cameo of 27.
Chasing 203 to win in 45 overs, West Brom were initially pinned down by excellent opening spells from Adrian Field and Cartwright, who shared the first three wickets in the opening ten overs.
Backed up by enthusiastic fielding, West Brom never recovered and the impressively accurate spin bowling of Woodwood and Haddock -- both bowling miserly -- appeared to have sealed the game.
West Brom skipper Sajat had different ideas with a belligerent 50, but Anthony Small and Field's second spell withdrew West Brom to 172-9.
l Spa took a winning draw from their Worcestershire County League Division One match away to Pershore on Saturday.
Paul Bryan (45) and David Scott-Walker (52) guided Droitwich to 197 all out, while Pershore made 194 for seven.
Droitwich took 14 points from the encounter but lie third from bottom of the table.
