PARENTS should take more responsibility for unruly youngsters, a Redditch County Councillor has claimed.
Tom Wareing, who represents Crabbs Cross ward, hit out after receiving numerous complaints about children playing football in the streets.
He said when they asked children to move away, residents were often subjected to a torrent of abuse.
Mr Wareing has approached the police to try to stamp out unruly behaviour and asked council officials to install "No Ball Games" signs around the area.
"I have received a number of complaints from elderly and sick people who are being plagued by irresponsible youngsters," Mr Wareing said.
"When people are sick or elderly they and their carers have more than enough on their plate without having to put up with youngsters kicking balls into gardens and abusing their elders when they are asked nicely to move away."
Mr Wareing added:"It's a great pity parents are not more prepared to take responsibility for their children's actions
"What's more annoying is when they know their children are offending, they are unwilling to give them instruction on how to behave in a civilised and responsible manner.
"The reports I have received about ill- mannered young people are appalling.
"One wonders about the future of our society at times."
Mr Wareing said there were numerous clubs and societies such as Scouts and the Boys' Brigade that young people could join and they could also make better use of the town's parks.
