WITH over 100 athletes entered, Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletics Club were well represented at the British Veterans track and field championships at Eton on June 23 and 24.
On the Saturday, Bronwen Cardy took two gold medals with wins in the over 45 1500m with a time of five minutes, 11.3 seconds and in the 5000m in 17.35.7.
Bernie Jones did likewise in the Mens over 40, 1500m, with a time of 4.11.0, in what was one of the best races of the day. Bernie took the gold with a strong sprint finish.
Russell Rawlins, in his first British championships, finished a fine tenth in a very strong field in the M40 5000m with a time of 14.31.96.
Dave Henley took silver in the M50, 3 kilometre walk in 14.17.20, while David Carney took fifth place in the M60 1500m in 5.45.1.
There was a new club record in the W55 400m, where Yvonne Priestman took the gold medal in a time of 66.9 -- both a club record and a new championship record.
On Sunday, in the 5k walk, Dave Henley (M50), took a silver medal in 24.50.9, while in the W55 200m, Yvonne Priestman took the same medal with a season's best of 28.87, which also improved the club record.
