PART of Redditch town centre came to a standstill on Thursday as seven police officers arrested a man after he stole from a shop in the Kingfisher Centre.
Scores of onlookers watched as officers grappled with the man at the top of Unicorn Hill as they arrested him.
After the arrest, Peter Clarke, 25, of Dagenham, was charged with actual bodily harm and theft.
A Redditch police spokesman said: "Police were called to a report of a theft at the Kingfisher Centre.
"Upon arrival a man assaulted a police officer by biting his elbow.
"The officer was taken to hospital and was treated and discharged."
On Friday, magistrates sentenced Clarke to two months in prison for actual bodily harm and one week for theft.
